Home Not So Sweet

The Buffalo Town Team hosted Howard Lake on Wednesday Night after beating them Sunday. This time fortunes were reversed. The Orphans defeated the Bulldogs by a score of 6-3. Buffalo played good baseball for 7 1/3 innings, lead by their pitcher Corey Braun. An error on a routine groundball derailed the game for the Dogs. Back to back doubles pushed Braun out of the game behind 4-3. Howard Lake would go on to extend their lead to 6-3. Offensive leaders for the Dogs were Ben Fouquette who had a double and John Compton with a 3B. Buffalo will try to put the game behind them as they play two more division rivals this weekend in Maple Lake and Kingston.

Bulldogs Go On A Run:

Three league games this weekend seem to bring out the best the Bulldogs. On Friday Buffalo hosted Rockford and roughed them up up for 5 runs in the 5th, to push an 11-3 victory. Ramon Vega threw 8 innings, with Brad Weber finishing the ninth. Vega gave up 3 runs on 7 hits and 3 walks, striking out 6 in the contest. Offensively, the Dogs were lead by Nate Hill who was 3-3 with a double and was hit by a pitch. John Compton was also 3-4 in the game, with a double and 3 RBI.

Saturday Buffalo traveled to the pristine conditions of Rogers Middle School and came away with similar results. Again Hill was on fire, going 4-5 with a HR and 4 RBI. Wackler, Cox, and Olmscheid all had 2 RBI in the game. Anthony Schulze hung around for 7 innings. He seemed on the ropes all game, but battled to only to give up 3 runs on 10 hits and 5 walks, striking out 4. The final score was 12 - 4.

The weekend finale' came on Sunday against Howard Lake, but almost didn't happen. Due to a schedule conflict an umpire with experience came out of the crowd to officiate the game. Thanks fo the help!!! Buffalo. In the game, Buffalo came out hot, getting 8 hits in the first 5 innings, including a home run by Ramon Vega to put Buffalo up for good in the 3rd inning. Howard Lake battled back to match 2 more runs for Buffalo, but the final ended up 5 - 3 in favor of the Bulldogs. Compton was 3-5 in the game with a 2B. Eight of Buffalo's starters had hits in the game. Vega lead all with 3 RBI. Darrin Olmscheid got the win with 6 innings of work, giving up 3 runs on 3 hits and 4 walks, striking out 1. Cox threw 3 innings for the save.

Buffalo Back in the "W" Column

The Buffalo Town Team found the win column versus Albertville on Wednesday night (May 28th). 7 Walks combined with 9 hits helped push Buffalo to a 12 run lead and a shortened game by the 10-run rule. Offensive leaders for Buffalo were Dan Wackler and Tyler Antony who each had two hits. Wackler also drove home 3 runs. Derek Bauer padded his OBA with 4 consecutive walks, scoring 3 runs after the free passes.

On the mound Corey Braun showed the command that made him the Bulldogs Ace the previous season. In 5 1/3 innings of work, Corey struck out 7 and gave up no runs. Ben Fouquette followed with an impressive 1 2/3 innings. His only base runner was a walk, which was quickly erased by a double play.

Other highlights of the game included seeing Tyler Antony back behind the plate, he caught 5 good innings before giving way to Bulldogs rookie Brooks Bielke. It was a nice change of pace for the Bulldogs who have been struggling to find a catcher, and now have two very strong defensive options.
