A Long Wednesday Night It wasn't 20 innings like two years ago, but it was long enough - and the same result. Buffalo edged the Delano Athletics 2-1 Wednesday night after 15 innings. Jeff Janzen started for Delano - giving up a first inning homerun to Nate Hill, but then went on to pitch a gem. Jake Duske matched him, giving up his only run on a homerun to Jeff Altoff. This was the way it stood until the 15th when Buffalo was able to push a run across. Darrin Olmscheid, who recently returned from a study abroad in Australia, managed the win for the Dogs. Busy Weekend for the Dogs! The Bulldogs have had a busy, but successful week. Last weekend, Buffalo played league games Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Friday night's game was a match-up with perennial power St. Michael. Buffalo matched up well, carrying a 2-2 tie into the 7th. The 3 weeks in a row pushed Bulldog rookie Carter Vogt out of the game. Mark Benzer was brought in relief and Nick Volkmann greeted him with a grand slam. Buffalo went on to lose 8 - 3. Saturday and Sunday saw Buffalo traveling East to play Albertville and Rockford. Both games saw the Dogs' bats come alive. Buffalo dropped 12 on Albertville and 10 on Rockford. Ramon Vega pitched in the victory on Saturday and Carter Vogt came back on very short rest and threw 7 innings for the victory on Sunday. Casey Druar also made his Bulldog debut throwing one inning in the game before the 10-run rule was reached. Back in the W's Jake Duske had a breakout game against Maple Lake on Wednesday night. Jake threw a complete game, winner and hit a 2-run homerun to lead the Bulldogs to a 4 - 2 victory over Maple Lake. Buffalo was happy to take one away from Maple Lake who has taken it to the Bulldogs the last few years. Another challenge presents itself Friday night as Buffalo takes on St. Michael at Bentfield Mills Park in Buffalo. The Dogs follow this up with league games against Albertville and Rockford over the weekend. 1-3 Start for Buffalo After a promising start against Cold Spring, with a 6-4 victory, the Dogs took two on the chin. Buffalo lost to Kimball on Saturday by a score of 4-11. On Sunday, Buffalo took a tough loss to Kingston. Corey Braun took a no-hitter into the late innings before a base-hit broke it up. He gave way to Jake Duske who looked very strong finishing the 8th. The Bulldogs extended their early 1-0 lead to 4-0 going in to the bottom half of the ninth. Unfortunately, Buffalo couldn't put the Kings away and a combination of hits, walks and passed balls lead to a 5-4 Kings win. Kingston seems to have Buffalo's number lately, but it is early. The Bulldogs are looking to bounce back against Hutch on Wednesday. Buffalo will host Young-America in their home opener on Thursday, May 20th. Game time is 7:30 pm at Bentfield Mills Park in Buffalo - hope to see you there.
